Lamar County Courthouse Renovation–Part XIII

For those of you just joining us or for those of you who do not want to wade back through my blog for the previous parts of this renovation series, I have provided links for your lazy tails here: Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V (The Big Momma- where I photograph the inside for the first time) Part VI, Part VII, Part VIII, Part IX , Part X, Part XI and Part XII. As always, you can click on any of the photos in this blog to enlarge them.

Other than a little more brick work, some painting and installing the columns (STILL), the exterior renovation of the courthouse is complete. They have taken the scaffolding down from around the clock tower after installing the clock faces. (They are not set yet. Right now, it is always either high noon or midnight at the courthouse.)

They’ve reinstalled the gutters and they’re shiny new copper.

They’re working on wrapping the brick on around the sides.

They have finished with the other side and only lack putting up the columns.

They haven’t replaced the tile on one section of the roof yet from hauling up the clock tower pieces and that has got to be done.

I went around back to see if I could get in through my old doorway since there were no workers on site that day and they have locked everything down tight. That lets me know they are adding expensive, somewhat easily removable items to the inside. I do know they have installed two large glass chandeliers to the 2nd floor courtroom because I can see them at night from the outside. They’ve also reconstructed the handicap ramp to the back entrance exactly where the old one was…why they demoed the first one, I do not know. Not up to code?

So needless to say, I’m going to have to appeal to the construction foreman again if I want to get photos of the progress inside before they open it to the public in the spring. He told me I could come photograph the inside any time I wanted to a few months back. Let’s hope that still stands.
