Why are you reading Large Print?

What am I currently reading? I’m currently reading The Heroine’s Bookshelf which is our Book Club’s book for September. I can NOT recommend this book enough to all of the wimmins out there. Especially if you, like me, spent your teenaged years smothering under the blankets with a flashlight reading 19th century authors at 2 a.m. on a school night but was not reading it as part of a school assignment. Jane Austen, Bronte and 20th century Margaret Mitchell. These heroines changed my life and I found myself, discovered who I was through their traits…just like the author of The Heroine’s Bookshelf did. Great book!

What did I recently finish reading? Rue McClanahan’s “My First Five Husbands and The Ones Who Got Away”. The reason she was so good at being Blanche Devereux on the Golden Girls is because she WAS Blanche Devereux. They wanted her to play the Rose character that Betty White did when she came to audition…they wanted Betty to play the sexpot and Rue to play the dingy one. Rue told them she had the sexpot down cold. Did she ever! Betty/Rose got dingy and Rue/Blanche got men. The copy that my public library had out on their self was the Large Print edition. I don’t worry about Large Print or not, it’s all just words at the end of the day but I actually know Some People who will not check out a Large Print book because folks may think they’re blind. Who cares? It’s a book. Read it. So when I got the inevitable, “Why are you reading large print?” I replied, “It’s the only copy the library had. *shrug*” Supremely unconcerned.

What do I think I’ll read next? This is always the question I can’t make up my mind enough to answer but the next book I read this time will be one of the following:

• Volume 1 of Mark Twain’s Autobiography that was published last year
• Jimmy McDonough’s biography of Tammy Wynette: Tragic Country Queen
• Plastic Man: On the Lam, which is a comic book with "Plastic Man as the cover of the book”. He is stretched from one cover to the other. It is a riot. I love Plastic Man.
